Size
On the rear of the forklift is a counterbalance, which allows the lift truck to raise extremely heavy objects. The counterbalance provides balance so that the machine would not tip over while lifting and transporting heavy cargo. Forklifts are rated according to their load capacity. A small lift truck that could lift 1800 kilograms weighs approximately 4000 kilograms, that is equivalent to two full-size pickup trucks. The largest forklifts can lift stuff as heavy as 36,000 kilograms.

Considerations
In using a lift truck, there are many safety issues. Like for example, travel in reverse when driving down a ramp. You must also haul a load in reverse if the load is bulky and interferes with vision. Operators need to be familiar with how to mount the lift safely utilizing the "three-point stance." This involves placing the right hand on the back of the seat, while holding the upright of the safety cage using the left hand and placing the left foot on the step. Never jump out of a forklift even during a tip over. It is safer to remain inside the confines of the lift. Any fall or slip on a forklift could result in severe injuries.

Potential
Forklifts are considered indispensable tools in many industries as they can be used to efficiently and quickly load and unload things and supplies safely and with little physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a primary priority when working in public spaces. Operators should always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A forklift should never be driven on a highway or on uneven grounds. The driver must have a seat belt fastened at all times when driving.

Expert Insight
Forklifts will always be vital pieces of machine for companies since forklifts are an essential tool in any culture which makes and consumes mass-produced products. OSHA supervises compliance standards for businesses that utilize forklifts and provides licensing and certification protocols. The forklift Rodeo is an entertainment event meant for operators and other workers which includes an obstacle course and other entertaining spectacles.
